Nate Diaz shocked the combined martial arts planet earlier this month when he handed UFC gold boy Conor McGregor his initial loss inside the Octagon. Diaz had stepped in as an injury replacement for UFC lightweight winner Rafael dos Anjos on 11 days’ notice. Before the reduction, McGregor had taken the UFC by storm, winning his first seven bouts, making six knockouts in the process including an incredibly 13 second success over then-champion Jose Aldo last December to catch the featherweight belt. Diaz, on the other hand, was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter season five and had undergone an up-and-down UFC career, making a title shot at 2012, but failing to get to the surface of the advertising. The success over McGregor immediately made him a contender once more. MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas had this to say about the rematch:
Having a rumored Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz rematch in the works for UFC 200, the chances are going to be radically different this time around. Diaz shot McGregor’s best shots in their UFC 196 major event, weathering the early storm before damaging McGregor and finishing him via submission in the second. Diaz took the first fight on 11 days’ notice while McGregor was initially planning to compete 15 pounds lighter for the UFC lightweight name. Having a complete training camp to prepare, both fighters will be more familiar with each other and we could anticipate a more educated human boxing match. Diaz’s confidence will be higher now, but McGregor also understands he was doing severe damage in the first round before slowing down. All that aside, McGregor is still the most popular man fighter on the roster and he must have plenty of support in the gambling public. If the bout takes place in welterweight (170 lbs), McGregor are the -155 favored with all the comeback on Diaz being +125. If the bout instead takes place at lightweight, McGregor will be a -170 betting favored with Diaz coming in as a +140 underdog.
